Deborah Garrett, founder/owner I am a graduate of Smith College, graduating cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in Developmental Psychology. My love of music started at an early age, and I have always had a desire to truly make a difference in the lives of others. I have a special affinity for babies, animals and older adults and am grateful to have spent the past 15 years bringing back memories to Seniors in assisted living through the activity and music programs of Flashback Music Memories.
I have always been curious about how people learn...first working with babies and young children and now working to discover what older adults with memory impairment still know and findinng ways to access those memories and raise their self-esteem. I firmly advocate meeting people where they are and helping them find what they CAN do. As someone who has had family members who have experienced dementia, I have seen them move from their heads to their hearts and know the importance of heart-centered communication.
As a musician, I have over 35 years professional singing experience spanning opera, sacred music, musical theatre, and Big Band. I currently specialize in classic musical theater and the Great American Songbook with popular songs from the 1920's through 1960's, and I particularly enjoy bringing joy and memories back to those who know and love this era of music.
In addition to my Vintage Entertainment and Activities & Music Programs, I have also co-founded "The Girls Next Door 1940's vocal trio" and have been an active classical musician. I have toured with my college alumnae choir as their Soprano Soloist performing Mozart's Requiem in Sicily (Italy), 2 Beethoven works in Estonia & Russia and in 2019 was the soprano soloist in Hayden's Lord Nelson Mass in Solvenia.
I am extremely grateful to be living my dream, and to be able to touch so many lives. Please contact me if I can be of service. Deborah Garrett Flashback Music Memories | Flashback Activities & Music 888.449.5229 |
